Superman

First, books, now it’s movies! I don’t really do movie reviews and such. But recently, I had a blast watching one, a first in a very long time of superhero movies. So maybe I’ll spend time writing about that.

Okay, I’ll say it right away—I really enjoyed this Superman movie. I didn’t expect to, but it had all the right ingredients: a little nostalgia (for me), some romance, and just the right amount of action without making you feel like you’ve been hit with a CGI hammer.

The Characters

Let’s talk about Nicholas Hoult. The man is just naturally irritating—and I mean that as a compliment. He has a real talent for playing characters you want to throw a shoe at, but can’t stop watching. Nakakainis in the best way. (I loved and hated him in The Great.)

The side characters made it all very interesting. It’s not just the hero. They all held up.

The chemistry between Lois and Clark? Chef’s kiss! But full disclosure—I’m totally biased because I love Mrs. Maisel. She’s so charming and witty that I couldn’t help but root for her. There’s just a spark there that made their dynamic click, without it feeling forced or overdone.

Maybe I have to write something about the man itself. I like him but I’ll let the internet do its thing, I’m pretty sure plentiful good reviews around. He did carry the whole thing. What is interesting to me is that he gets beaten up too, and he still looked hunky despite :D

The Best Lady Villain

The Engineer reminder me of that lady villain…

Growing up in Christopher Reeves Superman era.. this lady, Ursa, is the best lady villain for me.

The Engineer is not Ursa. But she got there in terms of impact. I like that they’re not the over-superpower kind of villains, they have limitations too and so. I found the “I’m trying” shout a nice proof of that.

I’m so glad that the dark and gritty type of super hero movies is done. I find this movie refreshing. It didn’t feel repetitive or tiring. It kept a good pace, balanced the serious with the fun, and knew when to hold back.

The unexpected clone is a good surprise? Didn’t see that coming. It could’ve gone cheesy and cliche-ish real fast, but they actually pulled it off with a sleek tech edge. It wasn’t just another random dude with superpowers—it had a thoughtful sci-fi vibe that grounded it.

Final thoughts? Please, no sequel. It stands strong on its own, and sometimes, that’s the best kind of story—one that knows when to say “That’s enough.”
