Pride and Prejudice

I finished the book at last. It took me a while, but I finally did!

I was looking for a fictional but still-life book to be my next endeavor. I wanted a light read that is based a bit to reality. So I leaned on to the classics. And where more to go to but to the beloved classic, the foundation of rom-coms (so they say), an intro to the Austen world.. Pride and Prejudice.

This book is a souvenir I got from my trip to Bath, England. I thought it as something I'll put on display. But I was happy I finally get to it.

The book is a slow-burn. I've been waiting all this time for 'big moments'. All this time I wonder why it's a book that defined a literary generation. It has its moments for sure, and a good light humor that is somehow relatable and yes, a rom-com worthy scene. The first one that caught me was Jane's horseback adventure to the Bingley's, a smart scheme made by mom.

It's funny, I thought it so boring while reading but in the end I suddenly liked it. The introduction should have been in the end. It all made sense when I read the intro right after. I was treating it all this time like an 'assignment' or an english project where I had to write a term paper afterwards. The thing that made sense to me was the style of writing. There is no big scene, no big dialogue, big revelation of some sort. It's like a slice of daily life.

And I waited till I finished the book before I can watch the movie. I tried watching the series first with Colin Firth on it but I found it boring as well, maybe it was my prejudice 😊. But anyway I thought if I had to do another casting..

Elizabeth Bennett - Keira Knightly, all based from the pride and prejuidce movie poster and her usual rebellious acting prowess as well

Mr. Darcy - of course Mr. Mark Darcy, Colin Firth, I always think of him as the character in those scenes.

Mrs. Bennett - it's a toss up between Bridget Jones' mom Pamela and Catherine the Great's mom.

... I'll think some more.

Back to the book. If I had to describe the experience reading it, it has come to this - Light as an apple pie!
